Privacy Policy

Read this before publishing

This is a working template, not legal advice. It is written to cover what Google requires of an AdSense publisher. If you take visitors from the EU or UK you also need a consent banner (see the Cookies section) — Google will not serve personalised ads in Europe without one. Have a lawyer look at this if your traffic gets serious.

This policy explains what DailyAtlas (daily-atlas.com) collects when you visit, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version: we do not ask you for personal information, we do not sell anything about you, and the only meaningful data collection here comes from Google's advertising and analytics, which you can switch off.

What we collect directly

Almost nothing. There is no account to create and no login.

  • If you email us, we hold your message and address for as long as it takes to deal with it. We do not add you to any list.
  • If you subscribe to the newsletter, we hold your email address until you unsubscribe. One click, link in every email.
  • Your language and theme choice are stored in your own browser (localStorage), never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.

What is collected automatically

Server logs. Our host records standard request data — IP address, browser, page requested, timestamp — for security and to keep the site running. These rotate out on the host's schedule.

Advertising cookies (Google AdSense). We show ads through Google AdSense. This is the significant one, so in detail:

  • Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visit to our sites and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site and use their own cookies. We do not control those cookies.

Analytics. If analytics is enabled, we use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which articles are read. It is configured to record aggregate behaviour, not to identify you personally.

For readers in the EU, UK and other jurisdictions with equivalent rules:

  • Legitimate interest — server logs, security, basic aggregate analytics.
  • Consent — advertising cookies and any personalised advertising. Where consent is required, we ask before those cookies are set, and you can withdraw it at any time.
  • Contract / consent — the newsletter, if you have signed up.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to processing, or to receive a copy. Email Hello@daily-atlas.com and we will act on it within 30 days. There is no charge.

Under California law (CCPA/CPRA), we do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising other than through the Google advertising cookies described above, which you can disable using the links in that section.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. Ever.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. It is a static site with no database and no user accounts, which removes most of the ways a site leaks data in the first place.

If this policy changes materially we update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
